A FREE Leadership Training for self-advocates & parents of
children with disabilities
Partners in Policymaking is an innovative leadership training program for parents of children with disabilities and for adults with disabilities. The program is designed to provide information, training, resources and skill building to people with a disability and the parents of children with disabilities so that they can become better advocates for themselves or their children. Partners in Policymaking provides participants with opportunities to meet and talk to national and state leaders in the disability advocacy field.
Participants will have an opportunity to meet and unite with
others who have similar concerns to create a powerful voice on
important issues. Participants learn how the legislative process
works at the local, state and national levels. The goal of the
training is to develop productive partnerships between people
who need and use services and those in a position to make policy
and law.

An Update from the Governors Council on Developmental
Disabilities
Please be advised that we have recently posted our updated Bill Tracking Chart for the week of February 26th to our website! The Chart is updated weekly and is designed to keep you informed about important pieces of legislation affecting the lives of people with disabilities in Arizona. Pursuant to your input, we have made adjustments in how the information is presented to you. Although we try very hard to capture a wide net of information we believe may be of interest to you, nonetheless, we encourage you to also do your own research. You can do so by accessing the Arizona State Legislature website (www.azleg.gov ). Simply click on the 'Bills' icon at the top of the web page, and select 'Bill Info'. Thereafter, simply conduct a keyword search to reveal bills associated with that word. For instance, a keyword search for 'disabilities', will reveal every bill with that word in it. We also encourage you to consider becoming more involved in the legislative process by attending our Legislative Consortium meetings and/or by joining one of our legislative action committees. For more information, visit our web-site at www.azgcdd.org and click on the 'Public Policy' icon at the top of the web page. REGARDING PROPOSITION 202/ MINIMUM WAGE: The Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities is continuing to work with all interested parties towards a joint solution to this matter. We are hopeful that a mutually acceptable solution is forthcoming and thank all parties for their continued commitment toward that end. |
