State Resources for Special Education

by Dru Bloomfield on October 21, 2007

I’ve just added a Resources page to the SEPAC blog, with Arizona contact information published by NICHCY.  From their web site:

Welcome to NICHCY and a wealth of information on disabilities!

NICHCY stands for the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities. We serve the nation as a central source of information on:

  • disabilities in infants, toddlers, children, and youth,
  • IDEA, which is the law authorizing special education,
  • No Child Left Behind (as it relates to children with disabilities), and
  • research-based information on effective educational practices.

AZ Dept. of Education – Network News

by Dru Bloomfield on October 18, 2007

The Arizona Dept. of Education has just released its fall issue of Network News.

Highlights include:

  • Monitoring Your Child’s Progress – Progress reports are one of the most under utilized pieces of information that parents receive regarding their child’s special education services.
  • Measurable Goals – Goals provide the basis for instruction, describing what a child needs related to their disability. Goals, contained in an IEP, describe what a student can reasonably expect to accomplish within one year.
  • Arizona Legislative Update – By the conclusion of the 48th Legislative Session of the Arizona State Legislature, a significant change to the powers of a school district’s governing board or county school superintendent passed, affecting students with disabilities.
  • and more
